It's like California

It's like I felt closer to you when I was in California and you were here.
It's like when you're eating a piece of chocolate and you remember it tasting different than it really does.
It's like chewing your last piece of gum and eating pasta at the same time. You're not certain if what you're chewing is gum or pasta and then you realize you swallowed the gum five minutes ago.
It's like California
It's like how singing in in the rain somehow turns into dancing in the rain.
It's like when when you're nice white shirt gets blood and guts all over it.
It's like when you buy a nice, neat notebook for creative writing and by the end of the semester, it's a mess but you get extra credit because Nelson says 'it's so real.'
It's how you feel when you get your first kiss.
It's how the sky looks on a warm summer day.
It's how you end up marrying your first kiss and you guys skip off into the sunset.
It's like California when it's 110 degrees outside.
It's like nothing you've ever known.
It's like when you find something or someone you thought you had lost.
It's like when you go streaking late at night and you didn't know you could feel so free.
It's like when you just want to cry, really sob like there's no tomorrow but you find something to laugh about instead.
It's like you just won the lottery.
It's like California and you're at Disneyland.
It's like when you shred the perfect wave and when you get back to the shore, the most perfect girl is standing there, waiting for you. Win-win.
It's like summer, when you're laying out in your bikini and your hair is dancing in the gentle breeze that isn't cold but it just moves the air around enough to let you know that God is looking at you, and He just breathed out.
It's like California. When you're playing at the beach and it's all sun and all you can smell is sunblock and the brine of the water.
It's like when you didn't know you could care about someone as much as you care about your boyfriend.
It's like when you just want to get married to him and you can't wait for the day when you can.
It's like California. Oceanside, California. Augora Hills, California. Newport Beach, California.  Laguna Beach, California. Newbury Park, California, where you grew up.
Southern California.
Take me back.
